I just had a new shop built and have moved most of my stuff in and live in a descent neighborhood. I am thinking about putting in an alarm system has anyone got any good ideas or recommendations.
Thanx

mine is alarmed into the house monitored system, with separate keypad at the shop.
put an alarm co. sticker on the door
my shop has no low windows -- every window is at least 6' from flat ground (and ladders are not handy to help the thieves). This avoids "peepers" seeing what u got to steal, and makes it hard for them to get in thru a window (and doesn't block bench/storage inside for window openings).
I got one man door, double deadbolted. Rollup door has no automatic opener, but is manual, with sliding lock bolt on either side to lock the tracks.
My neighbors know that only 2 people other than me are allowed to be at the shop, unless I am there...and they know the other 2 people by sight.
standard house-type security applies -- keep shrubbery trimmed back, don't advertise what you got, limit people that come on-site to see what you have to steal, etc.
edit: if you put in the alarm system, be sure and get the right motion sensors -- the cheapo types used in houses do not work in the cold -- one made for cold temps is only about 10-15 bucks more. Also, don't go with a smoke detector (dust), instead use a 115* heat sensor.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming

and to drive a truck thru yur walls
Hey, that was my old barrio in N. Denver (stolen truck of course)! One time they came through behind the walkin cooler in the liquor store. Had a hell of a time moving it back into place. Shock sensors did the trick, along with enough noise to awaken the neighbors. Police response time too slow.
Got the same sensors (Litton) and processor on my shop here, which is too far from the house to have heard the 2 attempts on consecutive nights to kick down the steel door. That was before I wired the place. Turned out to be ex-employees.
