Need some help here…the specs I hear about vary too greatly. Are they relatively efficient? Do they only come in clipped head models? Good for “punchout” lists but not everyday use? How long does a cell last? I know Paslode makes nice framers and one of these sure is a tempting addition, however it’s relatively big cake for something that has the potential to sit in the truck more than my dog.

Mine sits in my van quite a bit. But when I need to use it, it pays for itself. Imagine laying out all your floor joists, and then nailing them all off at once, walking along the walls without a hose behind you. Same goes on the roof. Once you learn where to best use it, you'll never want to be without.
Oh yeh, it's good for "punchout" lists too... But that's small potatoes compared to the uses you'll find for it.
*I love mine...but I would not use one as a framer who is used to standard air guns.I say no...unless you like buying tools.near the stream,aj
*Half the guys in my company have one....and they grab my new "hosed" paslode when the cordless acts up....which is all the time. If it's not one thing.....it's another. Great for pick up stuff......and slow work......but if it's gonna be your own framing gun.......get hosed. Jeff
*I had to learn some new four letter words after I bought mine but I understand that the new orange ones are better.Do you live in cold climate? That elimninates a third of the use you might get out of it but I understand that the new orange ones are better.I've spent twice as much on repairs and parts as I spent on buying the durn thing, but I understand that the new orange ones are better.I'm thinking of buying a hosed model, but I understand that the new orange ones are better. Not sure what I'll do
*Yes, the orange ones ARE better.
*I have never had any luck with Paslode nail guns. Must be a West Coast thing. I own two of those orange Impulse nailers, bought with the proceeds of having Paslode buy back two really awful black ones. Man, what a dogfight that was. The orange ones are better but not by much. The Impulse nailer is such a good idea, and so poorly executed. No one on my crew likes them for anything more than plumb and line and nailing in those odds and ends during pickup. They are always in need of attention and repair and can't be considered reliable. Great if you are a tool junkie but not so if you are counting on them day after day to make money. If you get one buy it from Home Depot or a similar outlet with a liberal return policy, you'll need it.
*Thanks for the info guys. Think I'll pass until the next generation comes out...whenever that's gonna be. Guess I'll just keep the twin stack on my truck for now. D-pig
*Maarshall is right...I love my orange guns but do not share them very much with crews...They are not mistreated but they are not babied...I have found in some peoples hands they are super...In most peoples hands..they are junk.near the stream,ajActually the orange ones have been updated too...they are on at least the 2 if not the 3 model of orange. I had to exchange my model 1 for a 2 to be happy. Great guys working as engineers for Paslode...Met at JLC show and they were the ones that got me the exchange and told me all the inside foo foo.
*OK Nanuke one the mtn.I spent 600 to buy my black and another 750 on parts and rebuilds. What phone # do I use to get a credit for exchange on a 300 orange. I'm titilated.Actually,I think I'll buy their heavy hitter.
*Through Paslode Service....I asked to talk with the engineers that were at the show...Got right through....This is now maybe 4 years ago.near the stream with their bus. card if I could find it...nanuke
*Does anyone out there have any experience with the Bostitch cordless roofing nailer. I build small structures ( 6x6 dog houses to three car garages, and anything in between) and may do a roof every few weeks. I just hate hauling around a compressor and dealing with hoses. Must I just grin and bear it, or are these new tools worth their cost?
*I've got an orange one. I haven't seen it in two years. Frank's got it in his garage. I've never used it sucessfully for more than five nails. After five nails, something goes wrong. That's when it's working good.If it does work, it takes an incredible amount of effort to get it too fire. It's tennis elbow heaven. The only thing worse than that is a bammer. If I had to use that orange bastard every day to nail nails, I'd glue a Stilleto to it and swing it manually.JUnk!blue
*Somehow I knew the Impulse was not for you blue!...I would never recommend a true hammerheaded framing carpenter to ever even contemplate a finicky womanly kinda tool as an Impulse is...near my beloved women, ajhahahahhhahahhhh hahahahjh!
*Aj, I just think I have a bad orange. I just have to use too much effort to get it to fire. I've had the service dude work on it and he tells me that that's how they all are. I find that hard to believe because I don't think anyone would use one if they were that hard to fire.I'd love to use it in some situations...blue
*Blue...The firing push actually pushes the cyllinder up...It's part of the mechanical valving of the engine. Whe dirty and not lubed well, it becomes much harder to push. The gun is very easy to clean and lube once you do it. Watch the video...Or come I will show you at a fest gettogether if ever you and I attend one...I think we should both plan on goint to jamesfest in Texas.near the stream,ajIf yaa sent me the gun...I could check it out for you.
*I might take a look at the gun. I've really never looked at it. It probably was dropped in the mud a few times....blue
*Mud doesn't hurt it...The inside lube gets stiff. so the cleaning is off the cyllinder walls...then new lube is put in...near the stream recommending yaa peak at the directions or send it to me,aj
*You do know that you have to put a gas cartridge in it don't you? LOL I've never had a single problem out of mine. Other then people not wanting to give it back. I saw a buddy drop his from the rafters one day. He took it apart and fixed an o-ring that had gotten knocked out of its groove. Damn thing never missed a beat.
*Gunner, if the gas isn't empty, the batteries are dead. I've had the service people out working on it. It works fine as long as I push with all my strength at odd angles.....blue
*You have a lemon. I understand the frustration. I just can't wait to hear the reviews on that platapus that Porter cable is coming out with.
*Mean you the blammer? it's baaaaaaaaaaaad!
*Porter cable sucks at everything. There aint a cold chance in hell that anything good will come out of their warehouse.blue
*I'm talking about the new corless nailer I showed a picture of about a month ago. I'll dig it up again when I get a chance.
*Here it is. http://www.lapollostools.com/store/bn200v12.html
*gunner..i shud drop my bostich brad nailer fer that ?somehow i don't think so...
*Horrible looking aint it?
*Gunner, that's hilarious. I't quite ovvious that those suits at porter cable have never worked out in the real world....blue
*DP. I bought one not too long ago and I have been pretty happy with it. I needed it because I was going to be doing quite a bit of work in the attic (not an area that you want to be dragging the air hose around). The impulse has both clipped and round head nails for the gun. The fuel cells say they will drive up to 1500 nails each, I believe HD sells them for $13.00 for 2 and a box of 3" commons is $23.00 (2500 nails per box?). I do mostly small jobs and I figured that the time not spent setting up the compressor and hoses would be worth the cost of the gun for me. However I would not get rid of my air nailers yet, you'll still need them for the big jobs and I have noticed that you will still need to hammer some of the nails home every once in a while. Also you need to keep the gun clean every once in a while if you work in dusty areas (they give you the instructions and a video if you request it).Lots of luck. I'm thinking of buying the trim nailer too but at $500.00 I have to do a lot of thinking before I commit. Tim
*Blue, I don't think they've ever been out of their cubicles. Let alone in the real world.
*Stopped by the HD three weeks ago and they had one rebuil;t marked down to $318.Went back yesterday and they had six of 'm at the same price. Suggests that a lot of guys either can't read the directions or lots of guns are bad
*Piffin....Most of what is resold at the HDs has been rented for free...People paint their homes then return the paint sprayers...Same for so much. When a store has such a liberal return policy, it gets abused.I just used my gun yesterday after not using it in 6 months, It worked perfectly on the same gas cylinder that was still in it too. Most people need simple tools...near the stream happy with my oranges,aj
*Ive got a 2 yr. old orange one.Mostly love ..some hate.I think the battery holder needs a more positive catch.Mine fell out and it was crazy glue time (luckily since batteries are hi).Have to keep pushing battery in too to make contact alot but hey still cant beat the portability
*Ken,Try sliding a flathead screwdriver into the battery slot (with the battery removed) and pry the metal tabs out slightly. It may help your poor battery connection problem. Works great for me.
*I put a couple wraps of electrical tape around the body of the battery on mine so that it fits into the holder more snuggly to keep it from falling out. It was the older black model though so they may have changed.
