I have a new fan / light comb unit I want to install over the tub area.
It is labeled for this IF it’s on a circuit with a GFCI breaker.
Can anyone tell me if taking the power for this, from a GFCI outlet (15 amp home run), will provide the same protection and be to code / safe?
thanks, buic

CODE does not require anything other than to follow manufactures instructions.
And I am surprised tht the manufacture would require a GFCI breaker and not just GFCI protected.
Unlike lighting fixtures most fans come from big brands and even if made in China I would think they would have reasonable instructions.
Some of the light fixture that are house brands sat HD or Lowes would have instructions something like "install on breaker with GFCI works and brass wire".
There is absolutley no reason for it to be on a GFCI breaker and I no "reasonable" inspector would require it.
That said I do see a problem.
Code requires (at least since the 99 NEC) that a bathroom either have a 20 amp circuit that only supplies that bathroom receptacle and lights and fan.
Or it needs a 20 amp circuit that can supply the receptacles only in 1 or more bathroom.
That means, if your receptacle circuit is 15 amps (and not just a 15 amp receptacle) can't be extended. It is still grandfathered in, but not legal to extend it.
Lights and fan can be on either.
If this otherwise means runign a new circuit, which would be difficult, then I would steal power for a circuit supplying a near by room and install a deadface GFCI in the wall.
A deadface GFCI is a GFCI "receptacle", but without the receptacle slots.
Often used on whirlpool tubs.

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
Bill,
I was hoping you'd come along and see this. Thanks for the information / details...buic
I just redid my small bathroom. The 20 amp circuit first goes to a deadface GCFI that I have located at the duplex switchbox next to the door. One side is the GCFI, the other is a 3 switch set (light/vanity/fan). That GCFI also controls the lights in the shower, as well as the electric floor heat.
