Does anyone remember a fairly recent article in FHB about the correct way to tile a shower? Actually, it will be the surround above a tub. I tried the back issue search feature, but it’s worse than prospero.

2 maybe 3 months ago. Article/picture on tiling is on the front cover. Taunton has a great tiling book that covers most of the layering & materials.
I've got the tile book and the magazine in the car but it's 4 degrees outside and I've already spent enough time outside today. If no one is more accurate I'll let you know tomorrow.
Make sure you check back for tips and such. There are some wise guys floating around here that are the difference between "Oh.. you did that .." and "You did that?"
I recommend the book- it's by Michael Byrne (who also wrote the article, I think???) anyway the article was good but the book is great...
I just did a search on Byrne, and the most recent article listed is 1991. I see about getting the book. There was an article not long ago, but it dealt exclusively with cutting tile. I'll keep looking.
Tiling hasn't changed much since 1991. A couple new materials but overall the book is worth every nickle. You have to own one. It isn't without its flaws but after reading it you'll feel like it is within your grasp to do anything with tile.Jack of all trades and master of none - you got a problem with that?
I agree with you, it's just that my back issues don't stretch to 91.
Not the magazine, This is a handbook printed by Taunton press. If you go to the local Tradesmen's hardware store. (this isn't the general corner true value this is the full blown one) they will have magazine racks that have books on everything from framing to tileing to whatever. The book above is about 20 clams and covers the topic womb to tomb. Tile types to subfloor standards, to specialty installations (marble, showers, walls, saltilo, whatever) most everything is there. You might find it on the front door to the Breaktime forum under Taunton offerings. The book is about 120 pages 8x11 inches with a good layout and indepth instruction.Jack of all trades and master of none - you got a problem with that?
Maybe it was JLC I'm thinking of... in any event, I will second the chorus of "buy the book".
In the spirit of mentioning non-taunton resources (sorry), there's an excellent tile forum at johnbridge.com that at least has a lot in the archives, if nothing else.
Cutting Tile is in 148, but it has nothing to do with showers. Installing a Leakproof Shower Pan is in 141, it is a set up for tiling, but doesn't get into tiling, Tiling a Shower with Marble is in 98. T&M in 129 has a waterproof tile backer you might like to know about.
Hope this helps
