Siding comparisons?
I’m building a cottage up north in Ontario Canada. I’m just about ready for siding and I want to save as much money as possible. There is about 1600 sq ft of siding work to be done. Can anyone give me rough estimates on what types of siding would be cheapest overall? i.e. aluminum lap siding is more expensive up front but very little maintenance vs cheaper wood lap siding and with maintenance every 4 years. Secondly, is the labour for metal siding the same as wood siding? Any info or rough sq ft prices you can shear would be greatly appreciated.

Hardie Plank is less expensive than wood and lasts a long time
Don't use aluminum, especially if you're in an area where hail is possible. Use steel or vinyl if you must, or fiber-cement.
Vinyl would be the least expensive.
Fibre cement would be next.
Labor for installing vinyl should be 1/2 of the charge for either fibre cement or cedar.
I would give you prices, but I live in NY so the prices would be different.
