I’d like to find a retailer for a beveled siding gauge. The type that gauges your reveal and holds the siding in place all at the same time. I’m working alone most of the time. I saw one of these devices on Ask This Old House.

When I needed them I bent a couple of them out of aluminum strip. They were simple S-shapes, and obviously you had to pull them out before you finished the end, but they were cheap and worked fine.
I have often used the bands off of brick cubes. Figure your siding width, bend an "L" for the right thickness, then turn up another "L" about an inch and a half. (It should come out looking like a "J" or backwards "J".) Let the top part(the siding width) extend on up 2-3 inches and drill a hole in the upper part. Fasten it to a stud with a nail, lay the end of a piece in the bottom of the "J", go to the other end and start nailing it off.
