I need to replace siding on a building built on a slab. It has a walkway all along one side that is level with the slab. The existing siding just butted up against the sidewalk, and rotted out. I will be using HardiePlank Concrete siding, but want to know how to install it at this point. If the siding doesn't get wet the sill plate will, because it is at the same level.
*Hope that your walkway is sloped a little away from the building. The sheathing should cover the sill plate. If the original wood siding rotted out, what about the original sheathing lower edge? Consider replacing the lower 6" of sheathing with 1x PT and sealing it to sill and studs with high quality caulk. I forget what Hardi wants as the kick out on the bottom plank but I would use 1/4" strips ripped from 2x PT lumber. I would also prime both sides of the lowest Hardi board - factory prime is only on the good face.Good Luck & Be Safe
