Does anyone have experience with Simonton windows? What is your opinion of them? Do you think they are over priced?
I have a house in the country in which the previous owner had installed some of these windows(triple panes.
I really have not been impressed with these windows. They seem to leak between the frame and the sash.
Today as kind of an experiment I put masking tape to cover the joint between the frame and the sash and it actually brought the temperature up a degree. It feels less drafty. I also stuffed a little fiberglass in some of the other drafty holes.
The prior owner didn’t have enough money to install new windows through out the house thank god. The old windows actually are a bit more efficient with the original storms that were left. Some have the aluminum combination storms which aren’t very good at all but still seem less drafty than the new windows.
I am curious of what others have to say.
Thanks
Jeb

I don't know if I have the time period right, might have to look in an old job folder..............but-in a late 80's house, simmonton windows. Dbl hungs-had to replace the jamb liner's for broken retraction strings-not impressed with much of anything about the window. I contacted simmonton in s.michigan and they sent me the parts in a couple weeks. Getting the right combo was not easy as they had 3 changes in the year of these windows. They went so far as to ask the color of the liners and ............something else.
That's all I know.

I ordered a houseful of Simonton impact resistant windows for a whole house remodel last year. Salesman said they would be delivered in two weeks. It took six. Quality seemed OK. After the next hurricane we will see if the glass really is impact resistant.
Two guys left Simonton and formed Wincore. Salesrep said they produce a window better than Simonton and at a lower cost. I recently ordered one for a bathroom remodel and was impressed.

every inch of the way.
the key to this is replacement windows. if i unserstand correctly, the problem is between the window frame and the existing frame. if this is the case you have a poor instalation and not a defecrive window. if this is the case it is easy to fix. please advise.
No the problem appears to be between the window frame and sash. It has a rather cheap weather stripping. Unfortunately I can not see any other way to put a seal where it lies(the only material available for this application). I think it is a poorly designed window. The install may be poor as well. It has been too cold to really look further into it today.
