So I found this nifty idea for a trash can under the sink in the kitchen. (“Improving Kitchen Cabinet Storage” Feb/March 2004) with the sensible idea of building a sled so as to use drawer slides. Good, beats spending hundreds of dollars on hardware.
BUT article is clear about using quarter-inch ply for the sled. But doesn’t say what to use for the drawer itself. I think the quarter inch wont’ be strong enough??? In the “drawer” will be trash can (small size) and behind it cleaning supplies. 3/8th? 3/4?
Open to comments on how to figure out what strength wood I need.
Thanks everyone.

Can't remember the article but I'm guessing the sled is the drawer.
You'll need at least 1/2" material to attach the drawer slides too, and probably not the kind of ply you're thinking of.
You might be ahead to go to a cabinet shop & explain what you want to do and ask them to make you a drawer to fit your cab.

I don't understand what the "sled" is, and how that differs from a "drawer" in this context.
