Installed new Whirlpool dishwasher. All new hoses (dishwasher, disposall); and new air gap. When dishwasher ejects; the air gap has big time leak. Rechecked all hoses and NO Kinks anywhere. Connections are all tight and no leaks; just the air gap unit itself is leaking. Please advise.

Not sure how you have the air gap in the line to drain, but did you pop out the plug from the garbage disp.?

If you don't have to do that - if your dishwasher has a disposal built in - then DON'T! I did and I regret it! I wish I would have directed mine directly to the drain instead of the disposal.Rebuilding my home in Cypress, CA

What the hell are you doing directing this to me for, I compost.
Wouldn't know a disposer if it hit me in the face.A great place for Information, Comraderie, and a sucker punch.

Yes; thank you very much for replying. I should have stated that this was an R&R; and both the old and the new air gap leaked badly above the sink. Disposal works fine; and there were no leaks under the sink cabinet, just the air gap unit leaked.
When you say the air gap "leaks" do you mean that water comes out of it when the DW is running? They are designed to do that if there is some plugging or backup in the disposal/drain. Or... if the the DW has a kick-### pump like my Bosch there is a high probability of some water coming out the air gap. Like some of the other posters, I just run mine in directly to the disposal - with the required loop to the underside of the counter top first. Used the hole in the granite for a soap dispenser.
do not use an air gap. I have never seen one installed in South carolina
All depends on location some places you have to for code other places you don't.
My thought was the same as Edward's. Take a look at the install instructions. Most new installs don't use air gaps. With no airgap, it is required for the discharge hose from the DW to the drain/disposal needs to be right up to the bottom of the counter top in one spot, typically where it passes from the DW cab to the sink cab.
Make sure the jet in the air gap is aimed directly at the drain opening. It may be misaligned.
happy?
