I’m having issues with my new saw. Got the Mag becaise its lighter, but its got the Vari-Torque clutch and hasn’t finished a cut yet, no matter what I do. I’ve changed the blade and cranked down the blade stud with no success. Is this an uncommon problem? A couple of other guys I know have the same saw and swear by it. Anyone know of a fix?

I don't know much about the redesigned Mag, but we've been testing the Ridgid wormdrive since Dec. and it has beat everything we have (Mags (2), DeWalts (3 or 4), Bosch (3) .
I love that Ridgid.
How's the Ridgid when you need to shave 1/8" off the end of a board?
Unbelievable! I'm not kidding. Each of us (4 guys) all bought brand new Ridgids last weekend. I tested the saws for JLC and at that time our favorites as a crew were the DeWalt, Bosch and the Makita. We had Bosch and DeWalt saws and they have all crapped out repeatedly.
The DeWalt just falls apart. Literally.
The Bosch becomes really difficult to bevel without using a hammer, otherwise it's a nice saw. The Ridgid bevels more easily like the DeWalt and Makita.
JLC should run the Ridgid review next month. The motor is stronger (ripped lvl on this house with the Bosch and the Ridgid and the Ridgid did great, the Bosch started smoking the blade) and seems to spin faster.
We've been using the Ridgid since December and is running strong. We'll see long term.
What is vari-torque? I've owned the Mag 77 for years w/o nary a porblem. Is the blade stalling? Try calling Skil support and talk to the tech folks.
good luck, Carl
