What is a ballpark $$$ range for skim-coat plaster over blueboard, labor
only? Some numbers I’ve been told don’t jive, and I want to get smarter
before I make a decision. Thank

Jim,
I can't give you a square foot price. Perhaps someone else out there can. However, I had two rooms (each about 17x17) done plus a short hallway about 5 years ago for $4,000. A few smaller repairs were also included. At the time, dry wall would have been about half the price. I considered hanging the blueboard myself but the amount they would have deducted didn't seem to be worth it. It took two guys two days to hang the board and four guys three days to put on two coats of plaster. After watching them do the plaster I concluded this was definitely not a DYI project... at least for me.

...don't know.. never get quotes for labor only..
where are you ? it makes a big difference
*check out this current topic in CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES category (above). There are some other quotes. Might also want to try an archive search.
*Depends on your area - veneer plaster is so standard in some areas (Boston notably) there is little difference in cost to drywall. Here (central NJ) probably 2-3 times as expensive. You don't say if the blueboard is already up. If it is, there are plasterers that will skim coat for $2.50/SF.
