Heres one for the skylite experts. A 10 year old home in Florida with 10 ft flat ceilings has 3 skylites. The shaftways are wrapped in the attic with R-19 batts, and the ceiling has blown in R-30. There is no evidence of any water leakage through the roof. Yet, where the splayed shaft meets the ceiling there is black mold growing. It has been treated with bleach & Kilz-it–but the problem comes back. Any ideas? Give it a shot!! Thanks a lot!!

Fred,
Monster stone crab??
Why do I sence an offer for an "on site consultation" comin on?
*Dear Fred:Thanks for responding so quickly. Sorry to disappoint you--but there are no Monster Stone Crabs in central Florida! In answer to your questions: The drywall wraps from shaft to ceiling and has metal corner bead--there is no wood trim. It appears that the corner bead is also starting to rust a little. There is flexible AC ductwork in the attic of the house. The mold grows year round--not just when the outside humidity is high. There is no other mold in the house. The growth is exactly at the point where the shaft meets the ceiling, and travels up into the shaft about 2 inches--nothing on the actual ceiling. It appears on the shaft that corresponds to the high side of the roof, and extends on to the two connecting sides--but never makes it over to the corner that matches with the low side of the roof. This is a strange one!! Thanks for taking the time to help out.Sincerely,Brian
*Dear Fred:Thanks again for taking the time to share those great ideas. I will check things out and let you know if that seems to be the problem.Brian
