I have moved into this great new place. 4000 sf Barn/House with a 1500 sf garage. I have begun to remodel the garage for my woodworking shop and have most of the equipment in place and need to get the heat up and running. But before I throw the switch on the furnace I need a solution to my new born problem. I have 2 sliding barn doors that meet at the center and do not offer a weather tight seal. They ride on hardware that rides on a pipe on the outside of the garage. I need a way to weatherize the doors so they keep out the wind and snow and keep in the heat. They leave a gap of at least 1″ all the way around between each of the doors and the building and of course they don’t meet up square in the center. I know that I need to rework both doors so that they hang plumb and meet up better but I am looking for a good weather stripping detail that will allow them to be used as the main access door and still offer some good energy performance. Has anyone out there had any success tackling this problem? Remember, pictures speak a thousand words…..

I've seen foam-backed carpet attached to the jambs, so that the loose edge snugs against the door. Cheap, flexible, but not overly waterproof.
All the best...
To those who know - this may be obvious. To those who don't - I hope I've helped.
