I am looking for ideas on what hardware to use in order to have a sliding gate at the top of a stairway that leads down to a pool. The opening is 4 feet, so 1 four foot or 2 two foot gates, does not matter. Construction is cedar 2×4 with aluminum balusters so it is fairly light.

Why sliding? What are we trying to accomplish here?Bob
*If you want a roller type sliding gate, you'll need to build the gate in one solid piece at least 1.5 times the width of the opening. Two rollers top and two bottom and stops. Pete
*Most of the sliding gate hardware seems to be made for the large steel gates to put in front mansions such as:http://www.gateopen.com/hardware.htmHowever, you might be able to adapt some pieces from:http://www.crown-industrial.com/frames/slidehard.htmhttp://www.jansensupply.com/page10.htmlIf you don't mind some type of support beam or header above the entrance way, then you could just use some barn door hardware or perhaps you could adapt some of this kind of hardware to create a cantilevered gate without hanging it from an overhead support.http://www.kncrowder.com/slidingdoor/#4http://www.farmbid.com/SuperStore/SuperStore-Assortment.asp?AssortmentID=15http://www.dhi.org/products.asp?Mode=Products&ID=3940
