Looking for advice / reference material on hillside building. We are at the onset of the idea development phase to convert approximately 38 sq meters (~400 sq feet) underneath our concrete deck. House situated on severe slope. Additions may include spa, second bedroom/study.

It sounds like you are talking about going in under the lower side of an existing, is this right? Do you have any digital photos you can share?
If so, and you do any digging, you need to have an engineer study the soils and give you a plan first. I am assuming that there are enighbors close by so soil pplacement on removal and directiomn of water flow as you re-direct drainage will also be an issue to plan for.

Thanks for the suggestions. Correct - lower side of existing structure. We bought the house last year, so need to assess strength of existing structure as part of the process. Some digging probable. Neighbors not so close, but drainage on these slopes is a vital issue. Current drainage on underside needs repair, in any case. Definitely bringing in the engineers on this one! Have attached two photos
