Last spring I wrote bemoaning the damage done to my roof by sliding ice. Slateman was kind enough to point me to a company (alpine snowguards) which make devices which are attached to the roof and hold the snow so it melts, rather than crashing down into the valleys and destroying the standing seam roofing.
I installed them.
they did prevent damage, but they themselves were severely damaged. They are cloverleaf like things which are clamped to the standing seams. The weight of the snow bent them over, but didn’t tear them off Also, last year the roof vent was sheared off. We replaced it, and installed a splitter/brace device to hold the vent. That was ripped out of the roof (it had been attached by 4 lag bolts which were pulled out).
Anyone have any other ideas on this matter.
I think for the vent I’ll use the old “tearaway football jersey” idea and just stick the ABS pieces together and let the sucker be taken away. Then next year I’ll climb up and just reassemble the parts.

If the snow guards got bent, there weren't enough of them for the weight encountered. You must get some wicked heavy snow.

Profile says NW COlorado - could be desert area with 2" ort up to 14K feet elevation with 10-20' of snow.

Depending on the rafter length you might need 3 or more levels of these items to give the desired protection .
Can you post some pictures so we can be more able to help ??
