But we agreed to be in the Holiday Home Tour this year. So if you are in or near Central Ohio next Sunday (12/4/2005) there is also a decorating contest.

Or if you just want to see how I’ve botched all the fine advice you’ve given me.

Will you also be there?
It will only be worth it if there's the opportunity to nitpick to the point that actual weeping occurs (with the added incentive of doing it before a large group of people) ;)

Yes, I'll be around, but I may not claim ownership! I'll probably be in a Santa disguise.
Meant to check out your place Sunday, but was home with a sick 2-year-old (and the 4-year-old was a cow in a play at Broad Street Presbyterian, not far from you guys). Hope it went well.
I didn't make it either. I was anticipating swinging by after dropping my son off for an overnight visit at a college-----but we didn't drop him off untill 5:00 pm.
there is a nice park in Columbus surrounded by some really beautifull houses--- I wish I could remember the name of the park 'cause I was wondering if this house was in that neighborhood.

You may be thinking of Victorian Village (Goodale Park) or German Village (Schiller Park). Bryan's place is in Olde Towne East (half-mile or so northeast of German Village). They're all gentrified areas, mansions that had fallen on hard times which were then renovated. OTE hasn't established itself the way the others have, but it's getting there. GV and VV have some really elaborate places, crazy money. Also some strict area commissions to dictate what you can/cannot do construction-wise.
Yes, I think it was Schiller Park.
there was a nice community center there, possibly an area reserved for dogs, I think a bit of water.
Very nice buildings around it.
It was either early November---or late March. We were in town for either OHSAA basketball championships---or OHSAA Cross country championships.
Either way----it was one of those brilliant clear days---crisp--- maybe 40'ish
people flocked out of the surrounding neighborhood to enjoy, the park, the weather and just to people watch.
really an outstanding atmosphere
Of course--- I am one of those freaks that don't think buildings are interesting untill they have been around at least 60-80-100 years or so----old enough to have a history---good or bad.

There is also Franklin Park, where the Conservatory is. That is at the end of Franklin Ave, so that one is in the neighborhood. Very nice exhibits there. They acquired some Chuily glass which goes really nice in the gardens. Big butterfly house too.The house right next to the park are nice. The area one block from there to about two blocks from our house is more questionable. The tour went pretty well. We had a steady stream of people. The organizers said about 750 tickets were sold. I would guess that there was at least 450 to 500 people that streamed through the house.
Bryan---- my wife says the park was on or just off Laselle????
I am thinking basically north of Germain Village before the XWAY seperating germain village from the North End????
Stephen
I have a horrible sense of direction, but north of German Village sounds like it could be the library park. The Columbus public library got the top rating from the library professionals. The main branch is really neat, and there is a nice park by it.There is a block called, I think, Park Place. I believe it is by Schiller Park. Really, really nice location and nice houses.
well Bryan,
I am going to be dropping my son off at Ohio Northern University on Sunday---- I think it's about an hour or so away
Soooo, stopping by your place isn't out of the realm of possibility.
BTW----my last house was on a garden tour one year
and my present house should be on a house tour----maybe 10 years in the future. LOL ( we actually have pedestrians---and people in cars NOW stopping if they see me working outside and asking for a tour)
I hope you have fun with it-------there are plenty of houses I would LOVE to tour in Columbus
Best wishes, Stephen
Won't be stopping by since it's probably around 1600 miles round trip but have a Q: Is your home pictured on that web site?
Yes, our house is on the left column, in the middle. Yellow brick four square, with the completly wrong porch columns and railings. I got a couple of pictures from 1942, so now I know what the porch is supposed to look like. That's the spring project.
