Hi guys,
I have just finished building a new Summerhouse for our garden, problem! what do I with the run off water from the roof? .The site is too far from our waste water gulleys ,rainwater storage tanks would be unsightly, so I am thinking of using a soak-away, any ideas how I construct the thing, or do I just dig a big hole and fill it with small pebbles/rocks?

I've seen this done with a 55gal drum (holes punched in bottom and liberally coated with anti-rust paint) filled with big rocks on the bottom through gravel, then pea-gravel at the top. Drum was burried so that the top wasn't much above the frost-line, then the top was put on and a hole cut for the down-spout to go through. I remember they put screen-cloth and then newspapers over the top (or was it newspaper then screen ?), and back filled. Worked for at least 20 years that I know of.
