Source control, ventilation, and filtration are the keys to healthy indoor air quality. Dehumidification is important too.

The best method would be to vent up through the roof, however I have vented through the soffit on a couple of occasions with no ill effects (i.e., backdraft). I did use a vent with a damper screwed to the soffit. Just resist the temptation to exhaust it in the attic!

Ive though of going through the roof with a pvc "hook" to get past
the snow build. It makes more sense to dump it out the soffit.
without checking, is this not code? thanx
I do this frequently ... using the soffit is acceptable here (SW Canada). BUT make sure that the ducting, if in an attic, is a) insulated over the top, and b) that there's a slight slope to the outside to drain any moisture away.
Furthermore, use a smooth duct, keep the length to a minimum, ditto bends, and make sure the exit hole is well sealed so that moisture doesn't affect the soffit material.
Finally, don't direct it where the exhaust might be obnoxious - I know of one condo development where all the bathroom vents exhausted onto the walkways. Everyone knew what everyone else had for supper.
All the best...
To those who know - this may be obvious. To those who don't - I hope I've helped.
I see that every now and again in NW Ohio;most of the time there is no visible condensation problem (but I don't know if people use their fans), but I have seen condensation problems on the sheathing above that section of soffit a few times. In each case, it was a master bath that had the problems - degree of use, I suspect.
Make sure the vent is the distance away from any windows as required by your local building code. I'm in SE CT as well and in my town it is 3'.
What about venting out a gable end? Or sidewall? I've seen that a few times.
I believe they have disallowed venting out the soffitt in our locale.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
