Will be installing can lights in a ceiling of an outdoor front porch (living space above) and in the underside soffit from a second story cantilever over the garage doors (again living space above). Aside from utilizing “air tight” and “IC” style cans are there any other requirements? Such as needing lensed style trims or only wet location type cans????
Thanks for the help and insight……….

I would sure use trims that have a lense and gasket to keep the bugs out. and if you can relamp any of them from grade ..I would put those on a gfi ....
I don't recall seeing the cans themselves being rated for wet locations,

I've got them on my house with the lens and gaskets and I still get bugs. I'm about to caulk them on.
its amazing how the little buggers get in there , but an airtight can would probably help quite a bit. along with caulking and some sort of magical cold light.......maybe LEDs or fiberopticI don't think the bugs get in through the trims if the surface is flat......FWIW.

I forgot to add, that the lenses are on t&g soffit, so they are probably getting in at the joint. That is where I have to caulk it or seal it otherwisw. I don't think they are airtight boxes up in the soffit though, so maybe it's all moot anyway. Do you know if you can get stainless or aluminum lenses. Mine are white, and every bit of exterior trim is silvery metal, so I would like to be consistent.
paint them... mask the reflectors, use a good paint for metal and you're done.

Thanks for the reply. What type and brand of fixtures did you use?? Are the lens opaque?? What type of bublbs do you use?? Do they provide sufficient light??
Other than the bugs, which is probably because of the T&G you described, are you happy with them??
Thanks
