I read a Fine Homebuilding article many years ago on soilcrete floors. The process used local soil mixed with portland cement and minimal water, compacted, and stamped to make a finish floor. If anyone has experience with this system or can remember the article please respond. Thanks

Don't remember that one but Popular Science ran an article that sat in my files for maybe 25 yrs until I loaned it to a prospect. Never to be seen again.
They made a large point of testing your soil for suitability. Unfortunately I no longer remember what the onsite test was.
The alternative architecture lists sometimes deal with such issues. Organic Architecture (Yahoo) or ESSA. ESSA ( http://csf.colorado.edu/forums/essa/ )has a good search function.
