Had a quote for an 8KW system of 40 solar panels and inverter from the Solar Store, Tucson of $49K before rebates, tax credits, etc. Would welcome other ideas/retailers, because it seems high to me. Also, is the technology about to change significantly. These panels I think are monocrystalline and there would be a single inverter as opposed to micro-inverters. Thanks, Tuna

Tuna, is hail an issue in Tucson?
Over here in Texas, it IS an issue. Therefore, INSURANCE is an issue also.
Actually that sounds about right for an 8kW system which is largish by residential standards.
Whats it going to cost you out of pocket after all the rebates and such?

Crazy Homeowner-Victorian Restorer
I get 24K from Tucson Elect. hard rebate and then 7plus k from U.S. and 1k from AZ, both in form of tax credits. the system would be net zero, I wouldn't be generating surplus which utility would buy back only at wholesale but would build up energy credits when it's neither real hot nor cold here... about 5 to 6 months when we typically don't use heat or AC. Thanks, Tuna
At HfH Orange County we just installed 1.8KW solar systems on 4 houses in Anaheim that cost about $12K each (Anaheim Power actually paid for them), not including labor nor conduit and wiring to and from the inverters.
