My local big box retailer has a solid surface vanity top that someone special ordered and then returned. It has a very tempting price on it and I’m considering biting. It is 65 7/8″ long and I need it to be 61″ long, so my question is, can I cut this corian-like solid surface with my circular saw and smooth it with sandpaper? Is there a better way? Thanks for any help.

It will cut easily with your circ saw. Use a random orbit sander, and work down to about 400 grit. Can you but the cut end against a wall? Hopefully you're not dealing with a thickened edge. You can also easily shape the edge profile with a router and a carbide bit.

Thanks FE. Yes, luckily, the cut end will butt to the wall.

Then scribe it to fit, and away you go.
Use a good straight edge, align carefully, and use a good blade. Should not have to do any more sanding than just breaking the sharp edge."Put your creed in your deed." Emerson

The only part that might get tricky is if there is an attached backsplash.
That's where a miter saw earns its keep, or better yet a SCMS.

For me, real tough set-up with a piece that large.
Question is whether it's true solid surface or just OSB with a plastic overlay. Make sure it's the same material all the way through.
Thanks all for your help. I went back and bought it. Should be installed soon.
