I have a job I’m prepping for. Our last one as we are shutting our business. This is a T&M job.
They are putting down solid 3/4 maple. We demo’d vinyl in the kitchen and tile in the foyer. There is currently luan in the kitchen over plywood and it seems sound. I just don’t like the idea of leaving the luan down as it adds nothing other than the potential for squeaks. Thoughts please

Well if you're shutting your business down, what the heck do you care what's down under the flooring. The check'll be cleared and you'll be long gone before the first squeak!
Just kidding. I agree....unless the 1/4" helps to even floor heights with the rest of the house, I'd be inclined to pull it up myself. You may want to test a small area....see if it's glued down. If it is, the squeak issue will be no longer, and as this job is T&M, you'll save yerself time and the home owner some cash.
