I am getting insulation quotes in. In unit and corridor separation walls, some subs propose R11 sound batts or R11 QZ, while others just spec regular R11 batts.
I’m not clear whether “sound” batts are any different from good old FG batts. Any feedback?
Thanks, Frederic

If sound control is what you are after, you'll get much better results with insulation specifically designed for it. Regular fiberglass thermal insulation is not particularly good at blocking sound.
We do a lot of commercial work. I have been noticing lately the insulation is labeled sound batts, looks the same as normal insulation as far as i can tell.
Owens corning has info about Quietzone on their website.

Trust in God, but row away from the rocks.
Regular insulation is a waste if you want sound control.
On gun club projects, where they really have NOISE, we used something
called rock wool - much denser than FG insulation. It really worked.
