In Canada we can get this product
http://www.roxul.com/sw18169.asp
Don't know if it's available in the US
It actually is available down here.I contacted the manufacture a while ago after finding it on the web. Near me in South Jersey there are actually a handful of dealers that carry it.The product is very costly.BarneyIts not the destination but the integrity of the journey.Edited 3/31/2008 9:30 pm ET by Barney

Mass loaded vinyl. There have been lots of discussions on accoustical treatments here, if you do a search, you should be able to find them.
If you have very little room to work, and alot of money to spend, there are a bunch of options, from the previously mentioned Mass Loaded Vinal to QuietRock. If you have the room (9' or 10' ceiling) you can take other steps that will isolate the vibrations from wall studs and floor joists.

As far as bang-for-buck is concerned, stapled up mesh and blown in cellulose is hard to beat. My building buddy had it done in his house when we put a new foundation under it and the results were instant and substantial. Walking on the hardwood floor above the insulation even seemed to have a different feel, although that was most likely sound related more than physical movement.
After this experience it's something I consider a standard practice. The results far exceed fiberglass bats.
For interior wall sound deadening I'm considering moving towards celulose over fiberglass as well.
I'd be interested in others who have made the switch from fiberglass sound bats to celulose on interior walls.
Good insulating!

I agree fiberglass is hardly worth doing, but mineral wool batts work very well. My fear with blown in cellulose in wall cavities is that over time it may compress and leave a void at the top of the stud space. Maybe I'm wrong.
I have to admit to being a little uneducated about mineral wool bats. I've seen them on Holmes on Homes, but never in any house we've worked on or ever seen. What's the cost come out to?

The last party wall I did was five years ago. As I remember, it was over twice the price of fiberglass.
Well either my memory is hooped or things have changed. I checked prices with my supplier today. Based on 6" batts its:
$575 per 1000 for regular fiberglass insulation.
$640 per 1000 for "Safe and Sound" fiberglass batts.
$650 per 1000 for rock wool. (mineral wool)
Really not much of a price difference to upgrade.
Very good to know. We'll definitely look into using it on our next project for stud walls if the price is so close.

I was thinking of this. Some concern about PBDEs though..... In that respect, mineral wool looks better......
