I have a client who’s remodeling a residence with an apartment in the basement. He wants to take out the carpet upstairs and refinish the hardwood that’s there, which will then create a sound problem for the people (his mother) below. The ceiling downstairs is finished drywall. He’s talking about pulling up all the hardwood and installing some type of insulating sheet good underneath, but that’s gonna raise havoc at all the doors. Would it be better (and cheaper) to retrofit from below? Input from any experience anyone has would be extremely helpful.
