Hi all,
I’m planning to add some handrails to my staircase. Over 2 1/2 stories – and I want to make it continuous from top to bottom (over ponywalls & along regular walls, etc). Yes, my house has been in violation of several codes for some 50 years, oh well.
I’m after round 1 3/4 inch oak-rails, and lots of wooden 90-degree fittings, but they seems surprisingly hard to find. They need to be completely round (no flat bottom) because I’m an amateur and I can’t imagine figuring out how to do things if the pieces actually had tops and bottoms.
Does anybody know of any good suppliers who will sell over the web (and ship to Canada)?
Thanks for any suggestions!
Regards,
Terry

I don't know of anyplace like you need..but you might consider making your own. I made my 2" round handraild on a shaper with a 1" radius bit. didn't take long and probably saved me hundreds. Fot the stock I glued up 1" stock in 2" wide strips. Good luck at any rate.
Did you get banned again?
What does AFR stand for?
Anyway, like Frenchy says, DIY with shaper or even router. Although if it is the original Frenchy, surprised you needed to glue up stock, your local mill could probably have easily provided center heart rough 2x2s that would not have warped? Agree that a glue up with attention to grain would result in more warp resistant handrails.

Thanks, was a little on the dull side the other night.
Stair supplies dot com lists that they ship to canada, but I bet you can find a good moulding company that will make whatever you need. Not all of them advertise that much since the installers usually know how to find them. I built my own, but I was surprised when I priced out the rails from the manuf. Where are you in Canada? If western, you might want to try Woochuks in Edmonton or if Eastern you could try Decor Group (decorgroupinc dot com). Many many others out there.
Edit: I understand Decor group uses Mirror Reflections knives in their moulders so you can get any profile easily that is listed on the mirror reflections site. I am sure if you ask them, they will suggest where to get the fittings or make them for you.

You haven't entered any personal info in your profile so it's extremely difficult for any one to recommend a local supplier who could save you megabucks in shipping, etc. Canada does have many millwork shops capable of supplying what you are looking for.

Hi
Thanks to everybody for your help. I'm a amateur with some illusions of competence, but not enough illusions to even try making my own parts & rails. A purchase is my only real option.
I'm in Edmonton.
I've now managed to find a few contacts who seem to be able to help... I contacted a few companies and they have referred me along to others and then along to others... I'm now just getting some pricing. In another week or so I'll post back up here a few of the contact names, and how their pricings compared.
Thanks everybody. Your advice/suggestions were very helpful.
