I am designing a bathroom for a client who would like a deck-mount handspray with a temporary shut-off. She would like to be able to turn on the hot and cold, adjust the temperature, divert from the spout to the handspray and then be able to temporarily turn off the spray while she suds up her hair. She wants to eliminate having to leave the water running while she washes her hair or having to turn off the water altogether. Is there a handspray available that does this? I know that my shower handspray from Ondine does this but it is rather bulky in design and we would like a co-ordinated set…spout, handspray, levers etc. I have spoken briefly with a plumber and if I understand correctly, I could have two divertors installed…but someone else mentionned that a pressure balance would be required in this case.
I’m wondering if I could have a deck mounted spout connected to a wall-mounted single lever pressure balance with a divertor and a deck mount handspray; then at least the hot/cold is always set at the correct temperature. Any advice / experience? Thanks.

Hi Calvin
Nope it's not the same client, thank goodness.

Donna, don't you have a knowledgeable (boy that sp.doesn't look right) plumbing supplier? If you have to, go past the nice salesperson and get to the guy that goes to the shows. E-mail me if you want me to ask my supplier.
*Check the Grohe line and the Hahns-Grohe lines (sp.?)I think I remember installing similar to your requirements.Plumber didn't like it though, a little complicated for valve repair, so try to make sure the water system is filtered to keep junk out of the valve.

Hey Mike and Calvin,
I actually went to one of the better plumbing showrooms here in Ottawa yesterday, and discussed the situation with the salespeople (again) and I suggested we verify things with a plumber. No way they said, we don't trust plumbers! Anyhow I mentioned that a Grohe rep had talked about a shut-off valve and we are now researching that. It is probably the gizmo that Mike referred to.
Thanks for the tip Mike, I'll talk with the plumber about it once the project gets underway. Learned something new tho, I didn't realize that there was a difference between Grohe and Hans-Grohe (sp)., but now I know that they are two brothers that couldn't work together in their father's original business. Thanks again
