I need to find a source for 8d nails in short lengths 1″ or 1.5″. Home Depot and Lowes have 2.5″ 8d nails and I am having to cut these into shorter lengts. Any ideas?

It sounds like you're looking for joist hanger nails. They're readily available in my area in 1#,5# and 50# boxes. I live east of Boston. Good luck.
*Jobranch,8d nails come in only on length as you are beginning to find out. Chris's suggestion for hanger nails (tech name is Teco nails ) may fit the bill, be advised they come in 9 gauge and 11 gauge which most building supplies and some hardware stores stock, but the help most likely does not know it, so ask to see which one fits your need the best.FredD
