Sources for large wooden gutters
Looking at quoting a job where a larger gutter than standard 4″ x 6″ would be needed due to size of roof.
Anybody have any sources or suppliers that they know of or have used ?

Hey Walter -
Don't know of a source for wooden, but I can match about any profile you can come up with with copper. Just a thought.
Actually, I found this in my files:

Grant ,
I'll try them to see about milling something large .
Typically in this area wooden is used for strength and ease of attachment , then lined with metal.
Our local Masonic Lodge is closing on this property in a month or so . I've booked a 60' articulating lift to look over the whole complex next Sat . I'm going to do my first video appraisal and estimate . It needs a lot of work done to these three connected buildings . Gutters , snow guards , big chimney rebuilt , middle building reslated , etc.
Heres the chimney.

Walter,
I wished I lived in your neck of the woods. Any carpenter with a tablesaw should be able to make them.
What type of wood and will they be lined? Downspouts?

Chuck ,
I thought about getting a local shop to cut the back off 4" x 6" Boston Pattern gutter and extend it so it could carry more water .
Remember here that ice loading is a concern for wooden gutters or any gutters for that matter .
Yes they would be lined with 20 oz. copper and apron extending up the roof and use some 4" round corrugated copper spouting I've had here for some time.
The gutters are only part of a quite large job for me on this property that has only ever had one owner -- the Bangor Theological Seminary -- up to this point .
Best , Walter
I'd be inclined to fabricate a 3 sided box with a profiled front. That could be lined, or sealed.
Shipping would be $$$ , maybe I DO need to come up there? (G)

Only two things stopping you --- fear and common sense !!!
I don't want to have to use straps to hold the fronts in place , so I'd prefer one piece gutter . Look at the site Grant linked to - some pretty patterns in there.
I just e mailed them to see if they can make a larger New England pattern gutter for me .
I saw they are milled from solid. My thought was that even that could shear away if loaded with ice or a slide. I guess solid wood would be a tad stronger. Seems a spike (screw) and ferrule type reinforcement could be invisble, and not be used as a hanger, just to keep any forward splay at bay.
I see 8x8 Redwood in someone's future. And a lot of sawdust.
I'll come after the blackflies leave if thats OK with you (G).Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

Oh yeah, I forgot that.
I'm greatful I finally live in a place that hasn't a major Tourist attraction during the nicer months, the Smokies was hectic what with half of Florida moving in for the summer and every other state from above NC driving thru at 2O MPH driving a house on wheels.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks
