bricks on columns for garage doors are spalling and mortar joints are falling out, the bricks appear wet up to about 20 inches from ground, there are no rain gutters because garage has flat roof any ideas to fix this

Sounds like moisture is definitely your problem.I would suspect that weep holes are blocked or omitted completely. Also, if the water appears to be coming in from the top, I would also inspect this closely, where siding meets brick, or soffit.The spalling of the brick is most likely caused by the freeze/thaw cycle,but it could also be a bad batch of brick.In short,stop the water from getting in behind the brick,( i'm assuming it's a veneer), and make accomadations to let water that gets in out. reinhard
