   I've used Spantex on several decks over the years. I first used it on two decks in the house I'm presently living in which I built 20 years ago. These decks were southern exposure, which also took plenty of rain over the years. I've recoated them twice during that time. One nice thing about the product is that the fresh coat will melt down into the old coat. Its a little pricy, but well worth it in my opinion.

   I've never used it, but this lady down the street wears it when she rollerblades. It works very well on "curved" surfaces also......

   *Tuff stuff, the larger ladies seem to like it a lot. Especially in pink. Looks like you could pour them full of concrete with no fear of a blowout. Joe

   I have done five decks with the spantex, and do like the product. It is not for everyone, but has it's place. Like most things, it is necessary to prepare the surface extremely well. The flashing should be recessed, and nailed every three inches. I like that it is self-vulcanizing.

   I have been "luck enough" to repair several spandex decks while at a 96 plex, most of the trouble stemmed from water that would not run off, other than that it seemed to work real nice although a tad messy to apply.

   *I have seen a deck with Spantex (hypolon) deck coating.It's durable stuff, but this deck has been stained by kid's bubble soap and the owner has not found a way to remove the stain.Even after immediatly scrubbing it.Also, the fumes are powerful,so wear a respirator.

   Help I need info on a product called Spantex.
   It is a rubber coating that is applied on a flat surface that provides a "waterproof" membrane.

   I had Spantex coated on my solid new decks back in 1995 and have very happy with it!  BUT, you must closely follow the instructions!  My contractor used the wrong caulking on the seams, so it wasn't long before I had some rotting problems.  I had to replace a plywood section, then had to run a power saw blade down all of the seams to remove the acryllic caulk and replace with butyl rubber.. Here in wet Washington, I re-colorcoat the decks every 4-5 years and my local paint store keeps my custom color recipe on file.  Spantex is great if you want to keep the area under your decks dry.  Easy to clean as well.
