Spell checker

| Posted in General Discussion on May 29, 1999 02:58am

Sean,

I’ve noticed that spelling is not a strong suit among builders.

Is it possible to include a spell checker in the posting software. It sure would make reading the posts easier.

Jon

*I gut one at the libary sail. it costs me won dolar and sez "Webster's Dictionary" on the cuver.Same as Bill, often times the speed of my fingers exceeds the accuracy of my fingertips. On other occasions I should have just plain paid more attention during my school daze.

*Jon,You left out the question mark at the end of the second sentence. Is there such a thing as a punctuation checker?Actually, kidding aside, I find that poor punctuation, or lack of punctuation, causes me more problems in understanding than poor spelling. If someone sez "I'm going to bild a home," I don't have a moment's hesitation knowing what "they" mean. But I occasionally have to go back over 40-word sentences that contain no commas or any other pauses. Or commas in weird places. ("He went, to the store.")I could probably look back through posts in this group and find good examples. But then someone would find where I live and examine my carpentry.

*Isn't wordprocessing one word by now? Seriously, it is only poor grammar that slows me down. One nice result of law school is being able to read 900 MPH. Even faster with a FredL post: No vent, no plastic, "submarine" tight, use cels, shut up doofus. ;-)

*Aw c'mon Sean. Not everyone can spell we'll correctly, even with a spell checker! I would propose to those of you that now find out that because of your poor grammar, spelling and punctuation that you do your replys on a word processor and copy them into this forum. Then people like the ones that need to see things in only the correct manner such as some of the ones above and below, will stop whining and get on with the business at hand which I believe has to do with fine homebuilding.Spelling impaired people of the world unite!

*AdirondackJack,&bill curryWould you consider cleaning up your spelling and punctuation a little?I just returned from our local library and found that the correct spelling,( according to the latest release of Merriam Webster's Unabridged Dictionary,) of the word "good" does not contain 7 o's.I would think that at your age, you would realize that you are a roll moddle. Young people should not have to go to school each day and argue with their teachers that the correct spelling of the word "good" is goooooood. And what's with all the exclamation marks at the end of each and every little thing that you post? Are you feeling a little insecure these days????By the way, bill curry, I noticed that you have a similar problem with all of your question marks at the end of your sentences!!!Perhaps the two of you should reapply for a position with Hope, a rather serious soul up in the Adirondack State Park, which, she insists, to this day, is abbreviated as ADK. By the way, she rejected my application for a job. She went along with my basic salary requirement, as well as the company truck, new car, new boat, $150 per day living expenses, but she wouldn't go for the 4 cases of Deep Woods Off bug repellent to fend off the 6 billion black flies that invade the area each year.I wish I could chat longer but I've got to get back up on the roof to help my Assistant Design a Kupola!!!! *Geez, everyone just relax. I come to this board for the quality of the ideas, not the exposition. (I also know that most of the "rules" of spelling and grammar were created by people who didn't appreciate or understand English.) So spell phonetically, who cares? Except for Blue Eyed Devil -- a misguided Who fan?

*Um, I might be paraphrasing. i tend to remember the gist of what was said, not the actual words. :)
