Hi everyone.
I know that the way to splice a pvc fitting into vertical cast-iron waste pipe is to use the banded rubber couplings. I just want to double-check that this is still kosher when the splice is in a horizontal run buried under a basement slab.
Thanks.

Good Question. I'll call my kosher plumber, Fred Silverstein, a little later. But I warn you, anything Jewish that sounds like splice is going to require a rabbi.
MOST OF THE TIME THE ANSWER IS YES. LOTS OF LUCK.
Code in our area requires that the couplings (we call them "mission" couplings) have a flat stainless steel band - not the ones with the corrugated type or the thick black couplings without any banding. Usually they will have a bright orange or yellow sticker on them.
I believe that the connection has to be made no closer than 5 horizontal feet from where the pipe turns vertical as well-least that is what a plumber told me a few years ago.
sully
Thanks for the info, everyone.
