square d,seimenns,or cutler box
tell me which breaker box you like.i’m replacing a fed pacific that there is really nothing wrong with ,but my understanding is some ins co. are not insuring a house with them.
i’m getting ready to replace a box. 100 amp with a main. my requirements are that the breakers will be avail. for a long time and i want as many spaces as possible in a 100 amp box. cutler and seimen’s have a 30 space, sguare d has a 32 so not much difference in any of them.oh the square d i’m looking at is the qo model not the homeline.
seems like the square d breakers will cost more, along with the box runs 50. more than the other 2.
i have a cutler,3 seimens,2 ge’s in rentals and no problem yet with any,but they are all less than 5 yrs old,so thats not much of a test.larry

Siemens seems to have the most box space available. That means a lot when you get wires for 30 breakers in there. I wouldn't be scared to put a Square D QO in there either. I'm a big fan of them also.
Be weary of a flood of conterfeit breakers on the market too.

Is there a way of telling the counterfeit breakers from the legits ? Have people come across counterfeit 'sGFIC and CAFIC's ?
Thanks
There have been a few articles posted here. You might try a Google search. I think they have probably counterfeited everything.

do you think the siemens is a good box as far as the buss bar is copper [i think they all are anymore,i just had a general switch box replaced that wasn't and had burned out] .i like the siemens when using as a subpanel, they make a few accessories that help with get that done. larryif a man speaks in the forest, and there's not a woman to hear him,is he still wrong?
Siemens and Square D are great products. And the main two that you see in commercial work. Siemens breakers are more easily available only because they interchange with others. Sguare D's have to have Square D breakers. You can pick up a match for a Siemens at any hardware store or home center.

That is only in the SQ D QO line. But one of the other companies, CH I think, does have listed breakers for QO.SQ D HO line, CH BR (Bryant, Westinghouse, Challaneger), Seimans/Murray and maybe GE use "universal" breakers. But there is no standard for the design so that all don't fit all panels as well as the orginal.CH has some that are listed for use with other specific other brand panels..

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure that the Square D homelines are proprietory too.

I've always liked the CH products. No particular reason other than nice fit/finish and reasonable price. I put a bunch of arc-fault breakers in the one we are currently using. Only one nuisance trip in 4 years.

Which CH product? There are 2 different lines..

Heck if I know, I didn't know they had two lines. The panel in the house says: CPM 130 Ser. BAnd a typical 15A breaker says: BR15Cheers,Scott.Always remember those first immortal words that Adam said to Eve, “You’d better stand back, I don’t know how big this thing’s going to get.”
That is the BR line. It was the Bryant, Westinghouse, Challenger line that was bought by CH. And it using the "universal" size breakers. The other line is the CH..

I use Square D because that is what the main local supply stocks. I would rather use Siemens because of the copper bus and the ground and neutral bus hardware is easier to customize. I don't like GE or Culter Hammer due to the failures and poor designs we see in their products in our 3 phase irrigation controls and boxes.
i can buy the siemens a couple bucks cheaper ,have used them before with no problems and you guys all talk favorable about them so thats what i'll go with.i know that breakers should always be avail and i like that copper buss bar also. thank larryif a man speaks in the forest, and there's not a woman to hear him,is he still wrong?
You may not have to replace the whole panel. Eaton/Cutler Hammer offers retrofit load center kits for old boxes like Zinssco, Push-Matic, and many others. All that matters is sufficient width and depth in the old box. Cost is about 2/3 of new box, I think and a lot less work.

i talked to a dealer here a couple months ago on one of those replacements.he just stared at me like i lost my mind. so wasn't able to get one for that job. now this one is really easy to replace, hangs on a basement wall so it's probably easier to just pull it and put a new 100.box up and go on. thanks larryif a man speaks in the forest, and there's not a woman to hear him,is he still wrong?
