Ron, Figure 1 carpenter & 1 helper approx 3 hours, start to finish, trim and all. Make sure to add the double headers where needed and work carefully from above so you avoid any plaster repairs. Good luck.
*Ron, I think Robert's estimate is pretty good, as long as there are no unexpected problems. My own favorite "tip" is to screw two temporary struts across the opening (like a 1x2 or something) Then you can lay the stair unit in the opening on top of the struts and go about the task of shimming and screwing it with relative ease. (Make sure you drag the stairs up into the attic before you screw the struts in place) When they are all shimmed and screwed, remove the struts and trim trim trim! good luck.
