Back to my stairshop seminar which I have been kicking around for awhile. I have put feelers out…and there is a lot of interest..but the logistics of shutting down my shop for a week…and …..having enough that are able to come in the same week is the tough part. I keep pondering on this…keep receiving e-mails and some phone calls from people that want to do this.
So…..another idea…..I decided to not shut down my shop….but have a seminar limited to 2 people. This would involve actual hands on experience in my shop of various stairways at different stages. I would make sure that a curved handrail would be made…both inclined and a level curved one….a new stairway would be layed out and formed up. Stringers would be laminated….
Stringers would be routed….treads and risers fit…and wedged into place. In other words…a good cross section of what goes on in my shop. I assure you…its all a bunch of simple steps…no pun!
But….the biggest advantage I feel is that I would have no problem stopping what I am doing….and demonstrate or answer any question you have…even if it means going over and having a chalkboard session….go cut some laminates and bend them on some forms….whatever….. I would want to show what goes through my mind from the first onsite measurement….and building the stairway in my shop.
Having the logistics of just one or two for my seminar greatly simplifies the timing of having such an event…. There are a few times that my shop just gets emptied out….and I would black out these times so as you will be exposed to the maximum number of procedures…’steps’…that go into building a curved stairway.
I would supply build assistance by e-mail or phone after the seminar as you take on a new challenging stairway. I assure you I will welcome offering the assistance as it will be included with the seminar. This assistance would have been a god send in my early stairbuilding days. If I only had someone to talk to in the beginning!
So….anyone interested…..send me an e-mail at [email protected] saying roughly what week would work best for you, and I will get back with you. Again….the logistics of having a large 6-8 person seminar just seems to overwhelm my logistical capabilities…so I feel this more personal and basically a one on one seminar would be more beneficial to the attendees.
Thanks for bearing with this process of trying to pull off a large seminar. It looks almost impossible to fill enough slots in whatever week I pick. This smaller seminar would be much easier.

It would be cool to see in the mind of a genius. If only I had free time.
"It would be cool to see in the mind of a genius. If only I had free time."You should have stopped by my place. I watched the Mets get beat by Philly and then I mowed the lawn. Maybe next time.

Man, Stan. I can only hope that when I get back on my feet financially, that offer will still be available! - Huck
Silvertip- I am no more a genious than man others here...but I appreciate the comment! I steadfastedly say I am no more than a proficient stairbuilder....
I have one verbal committment and am receiving inquiries. This first person is available most any week except around deer season. I will collect verbals....then match up two that can do the same week. Again...I will blackout certain times as my stairs progress. I want to make sure to maximize the attendees time so as they are exposed to as many aspects as possible. Any situations not actually being worked on will be mocked up.
This looks like it will be far easier to manage....and I plan on having advanced seminars for returning customers.
I will gear each seminar to whatever level the attendees want ....I will consider this when I match up the two for the first seminar.

I guess some people don't view what I see in what you do and many others do on here. There are not many that can make a set of stairs like you do. I admire people that have a natural gift. I had the pleasure of meeting splintergroupie and she has a gift in what she makes.
Hell! I finally had a light go on! How are Megan and Kathi? Did you know i had lunch with...wait for it...Gabe!?!?!!?!!?
I have the first seminar spoken for. Its up to me and the two involved to set the timing.
Looks like I have two more for a 2nd one.....but I want to see how the first one goes.
Thanks everyone for the interest.

I know I asked you a couple of years ago where you are located but I can't remember, other that not Lake PLacid, Illinois?). If it is a days drive of me I would be interested in coming for a seminar , hands on learning etc. My job is 36 weeks at a college and the rest of the time self employed so I would be interested in a spring or summer visit. What kind of fee are you planning?
Have a good day

Feel free to email me direct if you prefer
Stan, I think that's a great approach. I'm dead serious about wanting to learn from you. I'm very broke at the present, but who knows, a couple of good jobs, and I might be back in the game. I'll be in touch in that regard. Thanks for offering, I'm excited about the possibilities.
Just one question. If you teach us too much, do you have to kill us at the end of the week? I got an Amish buddy who kinda warned me about that!
