We just got finished trimming a custom house for a small builder. It’s the first house we’ve done for this builder, actually it’s the first whole house i have trimmed. The first floor and upstairs hallway are all hardwood floor. We set all the doors on the hardwood with the space set from the door supplier. The house goes to settlement next week and we get acall that we set the doors to high. The builder wants us to pack all the doors down 3/4″.
What is the normal door gap for hardwood floors? I’ve never cut the door jambs to lower the door.

1/2 " to 3/4 ' If you put them on hardwood with the mfg. gap , then you're at 1 " to 1 1/2 " off of finished floor. The mfg. gap is set for space from sub floor. Good rule of thumb is 1 1/2" off of sub floor.
ad.... no standard that i know of..
but we always frame 6 ' 10 " rough.. so our doors wind up about 1/2" or less off the hardwood and carpet... sometimes we have to come back and trim the doors for high plush carpet...
i can just get my fingertips under the doors in my house over the hardwood
A 3/4 inch or 1inch sweep would be spec'ed for code here unless each room has its own air return, This is in Md, I've worked on projects in Fl that required a 1/4'' sweep.
I feel 1/2" is about right. However the local BC requires 3/4" under bathroom doors to allow makeup air for the extract fan. Some HOs object - "you can even SEE people in there"
cheers
