I just wanted to get a warning out there to us “hung on the post to die” builders to stay as far away from ACQ lumber as you possibly can until somebody can give us some solid answers regarding what hardware and fasteners to use. It really pisses me of that the EPA can mandate this stuff without thinking it all the way through. I believe at this point it is going to take years for the dust to settle on this issue. Z-MAX is not the answer nor do I believe hot dipped galv is–stainless steel? WHO KNOWS !! What I do know is that we are staying as far from ACQ as we can. Take a look at the borate products or go back to using cedar for mudsill. A waterproof deck does not need PT framing as long as you keep the 4×4 or6x6 post bases above grade and protected from the weather. More to come I’m sure.
