It ain’t about fine homebuilding – unless your fine homes typically run eight to ten stories… However, I found the following article on the new guidelines for earthquake resistance for steel moment frame buildings insteresting as it shows how pushing the limits of accepted design can lead to problems. (This is on the problems with the welded attachment points for steel beams cracking in earthquakes – the new guidelines were mentioned in newspaper articles a week or two ago. This gives a bit more background than I found in any of the newspaper articles.)
