I just finished a deck last week only to discover stains Monday morning. I made an access panel for the crawl space and the screws I used stuck out on the bottom sides of the panel. So I took the panel off the deck to belt sand the little nubs sticking out, well there must have been lots of tiny steel dust particles that spread all over a portion of the deck when I brought it back. It had rained over the weekend and now I have a spotted deck. Does anybody think a standard deck wash would remove such stains??? I could belt sand them down but that seams a bit drastic at this point. The deck is unfinished cedar.

S2,
Behr has a product for deck washing (I think it's # 63) that will do a pretty good job of taking the stains out.
Jon
*Stu, sounds like a sandpaper job to me. Usually the oil based stain will lift and cover some rust spots when applied but I haven't found a cleaner to remove rust or the spots you get if you cut incised pressure treated wood and leave the sawdust on cedar overnight.Good luck!!

Well I tried the No.63 from Behr. I used it full strength, It worked beautifully. Thanks for the tip Jon. Hey Pro-dek do the stains on cedar from cutting treated look gray...almost black? Maybe it was the sawdust??? I didnt cut any wood on the deck but maybe wasnt carefull enough with the sawdust?

I,m not sure if it will be safe for your deck material but I had to remove some stains on some mahogany siding and used salicytic acid. That spelling may be wrong. I found it at a paint store and it is sold to remove metal stains. skip
*That was probably oxalic acid.
*Rob thanks for the correction, now I've got to figure what I used the salicytic acid for? Skip
*Headache?
