I am just going to start and side a house with steel siding. I really would enjoy hearing some of tricks of the trade. Such as cutting techniques, straight and angled for gable ends. Also installing trim.

James,
Send an e-mail to [email protected] as he has built a house , cookhouse, and hunting lodge all with metal construction and metal siding. He'd be glad to answer your questions.
As for trim, I just finished trimming the hunting lodge about a month ago. Go to the construction techniques folder and scroll down to my post about installing interior trim over metal studs.
*James,I have done a few houses with an alcoa steel siding product that has a kynel (?) or vinyl like coating that gives it the color. It does present a few problems.First of all obtain and read the installation instructions for your product. Most steel sidings that I have seen would probably have similar instructions, such as..Cut only with a shearing tool, ie snips or quillotine ( a giant hd paper cutter). A circular saw will create a ragged edge that is prone to rust. We found electric metal shears helpful for long rips. The stuff is heavy, and hard to lock in properly in some situations. When cutting or hanging pieces for gable ends that include an acute angle on one or both ends, do not, I repeat, do not drop it point first on your cut mans forehead. It will leave mark.Don't know what you mean by trims, specifically. Why anyone would used this stuff is beyond me. It gets hot enough to fry and egg, and is no more authentic looking than vinyl. It dents, scratches, folds, spindles and mutilates and if difficult if not impossible to make repairs on, unless you can get your house to the body shop. If I were you, I'd find an alternative.Tom
