Hello,
I am looking to at some new hardwood flooring to put in my house and I am leaning towards some reclaimed maple but it is straight edged and I have only ever installed T&G. I can not find any video or how tos on straight edge hardwood flooring so I was hoping to get some advice. I assume that I would need to top screw it in but that is just a guess. Also, wondering if it is top screwed how far apart should the screws be?
Thanks,

I hate to say this...
...because I feel like a schill, but you should buy Charlie Peterson's book, Wood Flooring (http://www.tauntonstore.com/wood-flooring-andrew-engel-070989.html). Not only do I work for Taunton, but when I was a freelancer, I co-wrote the book, so I make a small royalty with each sale. But the truth is, Charlie addresses this issue in fair depth, and it's more complicated than it might seem, particularly with a wood like maple that can squirm around like a baby in a diaper change. Yup, it's a $45 book. How much is the flooring install worth?

Andy's in the trade, I'd read the book.
Call your library, you might get lucky (sorry Andy).
Darn you Calvin! I needed that 50 cents!
Double post. Ignoe.
Charlie's Book
I read the book as well as a couple of others. Charlie's is excellent. I wanted to learn all I could before putting down my first hardwood floor. The other books tell you what to do. Charlie tells you what as well as why. He explains everything. It's a beautiful hard cover book. Very thorough. Told me everything I needed to know. Plus Charlie answers email questions.
You know.........
The more I read, the more I find out how much I don't know.
Sort of counterproductive, if you think about it.
And nearing 64, I've found my hard drive almost full. Time to start deleting all those useless files.
They don't have an external hard drive yet, for the mind............do they?
I got one of those once but I lost it -- can't remember where I put it.
what are you talking about you whipper snapper? Why bacck in my day we never lost.. what are you tallking about?
You Know
Calvin,
I'll bet that you've forgotten more than most folks will ever know.
how stable is the humidity in the house where it's being installed? How picky is the client? I have some clients that would never go for anything that won't lay perfectly flat, others it doesn't bother that much. Out west I have yet to see anything installed well that isn't t&g although it surely exists in some high end homes where they don't mind payiing more money for something that is more of a hassle. Even on a rustic floor I just don't get excited about it, but I do know guys from the other coast who would love it.
