I recently had a formica countertop built which was 103″ long with a 125″ radius curve on one side and a half round formed edge on the other.I sawed a square cutout the 30″ stove and installed the countertop using 1.25″ hand tightened screws. A few weeks later thin cracks appeared at the corners of the stove cutout and are slowly working their way to the outside edge. There seems to be no stopping them. Any ideas as to why this would happen and what I should do to avoid it when I replace this countertop????? I’m already out a bunch of $$$ for this and don’t want to repeat the same mistake.

Next time, make sure that cut the inside corners to a radius, at least 1/4".
The easiest way to do this is to drill a 1/2" (or larger) hole at the corners of the cutout first, then cut the rest of the opening up to the drilled holes.
After removing the cutout, smooth the edges (and especially the corners) with some sandpaper or a file.
Leaving square cuts into the corners will lead to stress cracks every time.

I would also check the cabinets under the counter if they are not flat and you are twisting the top a similar problem will occur.
