hello, i am laying out stringers for an ext. stair case. it will be a closed stair and that’s my problem. it is 7.5/9.5 (r/t). i can lay out that no problems. question is what and where do i cut for the 3/4″ thick riser and the 1 1/2″ thick tread. i would like a 3/4″ to 1″ lip over the front edge of the riser. riser material is 3/4 by 7.5 and the tread is 2 by 10. stringers are 2 by 10 and out side of those will be 2 by 12 to close in the cut stringers. any advice will be most welcomed,my noggin is numb.

You are confusing your self with the difference between rise/run and rise/tread.
If your layout works out as 7.5/9.5 rise over run, then you need 2x12s to have a lip.
If you need to use 2x10s for treads, then you need to layout at 7.5rise over 8" run to have a 1-1/4" lip.
Excellence is its own reward!
Piffin is correct WoodChuck , 9.5 + .75 is 10.25 inchplus 1 inch lip = 11.25 or a 2X 12 but i would suggest using (2) X 2x6 instead so there is less shrinkage/warping cracking in the future ( leave a 1/4 inch gap in between so water dirt falls thru.)
the allowance for the tread must be taken from the 1st (bottom) tread ie it should be 6 inch when cut on the stinger thus it will be 7.5 inch once you have added the 2X tread material.
paint all you cuts with a brush on preservative before assembly to help it last a bit longer and sit the bottom of the stringer on a peice of duriod shingle or similar to keep it outta the damp. you might want to add a middle stringer as well if the stair is wider than 3 ft to help take the bounce out of it.
hope that helps some
