I am interested in coating over existing stucco on a home. I understand the process of applying NEW stucco, but I’m not to sure about applying it to existing stucco. I’ve asked a few people, and every one of them has given me a different answer, so I’ll put it up to a vote. Whichever method gets the most votes is the one I’m using.

Hey Razz I'm trying to get some proposals together here. If you keep bumping up all these poor homeowners in need of help I'm not going to get anything done today. <G>Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success.

Sorry 'bout that. <!---->
Here's how you get rid of it; just crank up Blue Oyster Cult's Godzilla until the speakers are twisting and rattling their way across the floor and the windows are shaking and everything is falling out the door of the kitchen cabinets and then when that ol' worm falls out of your ear onto the floor ya just step on it and smush it.
Glad I could help. <!----><!----><!---->Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it. -- Mark Twain, author and humorist (1835-1910)

That could be an expensive strategy. <G>
Give us a few more details -- what is the condition of the existing stucco, what kind of wall is it on, and has it been painted?

What is the said "coating"? You can color coat directly over finished stucco, if it hasn't been painted. Knock any boogers or high spots down first. If it's been painted, you need a bonding agent before color-coat. Although the ideal method is to sandblast first, then re-color-coat. I'm not a stucco'er, just passing on what I've been told.

Pressure wash to remove loose stuff; apply bonding agent designed for this purpose; apply finish coat of stucco.
However, if the existing stucco is at all old and you plan to keep this house awhile, I'd make damn sure there isn't significant dryrot/termites behind before you add to it.

are you talking about true portland stucco or the fake stuff.. 2+3=7
