Stucco as a Renovation for wood siding

Here in Los Angeles many houses with wood siding or shingles are “renovated” by being stuccoed over.

I asked this recently, but didn’t get an answer, but I really want to know: Is there a practical way to remove this retrofitted stucco? There are many beautiful Craftsman houses and California Bungalows which have been ruined with this stuff, and I’m wondering if it’s practical to restore them. HELP!
