Does anyone know the scoop on the La Habra stucco products. Out here in California, the Home Depots carry two bagged products of theirs, one with a 100 in the label and one with 200 (sorry I cannot be more specific but it is late in the evening). The labels say these are both lime and portland cement blends. I am doing my second stucco job on my own home and am using one part plastic cement (lime portland premix) and 4 parts sand for my scratch coat and 5 parts sand for my brown coat, but I am unclear about the finish coat. My first effort last year was with a premix Quirkite bag but this time I am mixing my own. What is the difference between using a one of those 94 lb plastic cement bags and the La Habra products. La Habra was recomended to me at some point but I am not clear on the distinction. Also, if I use one or the other (mix my own or buy the LH prepackage) what is the optimal ration for sand/lime/protland cement, Plastic cement/sand or La Habra/sand for the finish coat. The La Habra web sight was singularly unhelpful. I know you can add colour to the La Habra stuff but I am aiming for white and figure I can do a lime white wash or use white portland if I mix my own. Any plasterers out there with some advice. Much apprecitiated,
Charles Boyce.

Charles,
Certain LaHabra colors require the base 100, while others require the base 200 to achieve the proper shade. LaHabra's color charts always state the color along with the base needed. As fas as mixing, there is none! You simply add one box of color per sack and machine mix. Additional boxes may be added for deeper tones, or LaHabra can custom mix colors for you. I just had them mix a color that matched a paint chip.
Good luck!
*Hi, thanks for the response. Sounds pretty simple... But I've been hand mixing so far and don't have access to a machine mixer. Does that mean that I ought not to use La Habra if I am hand mixing. If not, what would you use for a finish coat in it's place. Does a finish coat generally have sand added or is it basically a lime/Portland putty? If so, what ratio of Portland to lime should I use? I'm getting most of my knowledge from books and articles and no one seems to go into the specifics of the finish coat. Anyway thanks for the info, I appreciate it.
